The Convent history

Not far from Peter and Paul Cathedral there raises high to the sky its domes the Holy Trinity Cathedral.

The first wooden Greek church was built here in 1796. Since 1826 in the Holy Trinity Church there had been the Greek gymnasium. In 1868 the old church was dismantled and on the same place they built a new, more spacious building according to the project by architect I. F. Kolodin.

Since 1996 in the Holy Trinity Cathedral there have been the sacred object of not only the city, but of the whole Crimean Peninsula — the Sainted Hierarch Luke’s relics (V. F. Voino-Yasenetskiy’s), and also the miracle-working Icon of The Lamenting Virgin.

The Holy Trinity Cathedral became a convent not so long time ago at the beginning of 2003, before this it had been the central cathedral.
